I used to travel pretty light, with a baby in my life that seems to be impossible. I do make sure not to take more diapers than neccessary for transport, I buy more when I get to where I'm going. I also prefer doing a load of laundry on the trip over hauling around more clothes.

We turn off our air filters, not sure if we actually unplug them, next time I will. We keep our house hot in summer anyway about 82 degrees during the day, when we travel we turn it up to 86.

I try to buy a bigger size water bottle and refill my smaller ones.

I also refill my travel size cosmetic bottles whenever I can.

I try to make sure my sheets and towels are only washed when they are dirty, not daily.

If anybody has an alternative for ziploc bags, please let me know. Since I have a kid I have become somewhat of a ziploc nut. I do try to reuse them as much as I can, using the same system as grey and black water so to speak.

It doesn't matter if I'm traveling to another city, overseas, or across town - I always, always, always bring at least one of my 16oz Starbucks travel mugs with the lid so that, if I'm stopping somewhere for a hot or cold drink, I simply ask them to rinse and fill it. I've probably saved a few trees already just doing that.

If I bring two, I'll give it to someone else to use on the trip, so they can save trees and energy, too!

Plus, I always carry a canvas tote with me wherever I go so that I'm never wasting plastic or paper bags. :-)
